Introduction: Solo Piping Scotland 2025

Updated: Aug 24

Welcome to Maggie and Delwyn's travel blog for the Scotland adventures 2025. Delwyn has done a couple of these over the years to save spamming people on Facebook so we thought it would be good to do the same for this trip. If you would like to follow our trip, feel free to subscribe and an email notification will be sent to you each time we post and update.

As most people reading this will know, Maggie is a 16 year old bagpiper. This is her third year in a row going to Scotland to play the pipes. In 2023 she went with her school pipe band to compete at the World Pipe Band Competitions in Glasgow where they got 3rd out of 45 juvenile bands! Last year Maggie went to play solo competitions with Gary, her Dad, tutor Richard Hawke and another piping friend, Lucas Paterson. His grandfather Keith chaperoned him. They had a wonderful trip!

This year Maggie is lucky enough to return to play in solo competitions again! We are away from 20 August and get back on 15 September. Maggie will be missing quite a bit of school but has plans to try and keep up while she is away.

Maggie has self-funded about half of her trip so over the last year most of her solo competition prize money, any money from paid performances, the money she earns from working for Mum and any other income she gets has mostly been saved for this trip. Maggie has also been lucky enough to be awarded the Connor Higgs RNZPBA Canterbury Centre Scholarship and an Inspire Foundation Scholarship which is amazing.

We hope you enjoy the updates.
