Onto Inverness

On Monday after a quick check in to Kirriemuir we made another trip north to beautiful Inverness. Not a bad spot to spend a few days in relaxing, and enjoying the town.

Tuesday was spent catching up - the usual, school work, washing and a rather lazy chill day. In the evening we wandered across the bridge to pub for a meal after which Maggie took her mother on a night tour of Inverness. She knew exactly where to go and we ended up at a lovely roof top bar before heading back home.

A visit to Inverness wouldn't be kosher without a spot of Nessie hunting and that is just what we did on Wednesday morning - a nice leisurely boat ride up Loch Ness. Nessie was a bit shy though. On the way back we called into a little farmlet where Delwyn was hoping very much to be able to pat a Hairy Coo but alas, we only got to feed them some pellets of food.

We also visited Culloden. Maggie had been in 2024 and called Delwyn feeling very unwell telling her she was "visiting some paddock outside of Inverness". The visit in 2025 was appreciated a little more for the historic importance to Scotland :)

The early evening was spent at the driving range in the attempt of hitting the perfect shot and then home to the apartment to prepare a roast lamb for some house guests.

Thursday was the first day of The Northern Meeting where the Gold Medal Piobaireachd and Former Winners MSR is played amongst other events that some of our kiwi piping friends also played in. Delwyn left Maggie to hang with her piping community while she headed off on a 12 hour bus tour of Skye. The weather didn't quite play nice but it in a lot of ways added to the fabulous adventure. A visit to Skye was kind of a Scottish Bucket List item that Delwyn was very pleased to tick off. It was lovely to sit on a bus, listen to a very articulate and interesting tour guide and of course enjoy the various stops along the way including Elian Castle, Kilt Rock, Portree, Storr, and a hike up to the Fairy Pools, or torrents as they were that day.
